I am a concerned Christian citizen and victim, member of a Pretoria-based smallholding community in the vicinity of a governmental informal settlement bordering Mamelodi.

Here is a list of some of the residents of Pienaarspoort who have recently been attacked:

  • A mentally ill person and her elderly father alone – now deceased – were constantly harassed and robbed.
  • A single mother with two teenage daughters of which one was eight months pregnant, were brutally attacked in their home. The mother received five non-fatal gun shot wounds and the pregnant daughter a flesh wound to the abdomen.
  • A single mother with three young children was threatened with a knife in an attack in her bedroom
  • A 75-year-old man living alone was badly beaten at his entrance gate.
  • A 75-plus pensioner and wife, living alone, were attacked by an intruder and a fire arm was stolen.
  • A 68-year-old businessman and his wife were attacked by intruders and forced to leave their home to seek employment elsewhere.
  • An owner was forced to demolish his property to save what was not stolen.
  • An 80-year-old man, now deceased, lived alone and was constantly harassed by intruders. His children were forced to demolish all the buildings to recover some value.
  • A 70-year-old man and his unhealthy wife were driven from their home in fear because of constant burglaries.
  • A 60-year-old local ‘boerbok’ farmer was forced to demolish his whole enterprise because of theft and constant harassment.
  • A young local shop owner suffered armed attacks.
  • A farm manager constantly has to fire warning shots to avoid intruders.
  • Two tenants were brutally attacked at their entrance gate.
  • A local tenant was hijacked and attacked on his motor cycle.

There are true stories to be told of illegal wood cutters of indigenous plants with a moto, “Prove this is your property. There are no fences and if there were, we will remove them”.

As I’m writing there is a young woman with a small baby and four 10 to 15-year-old children being forced by intruders to lock the children up in the shower in safety, while being threatened by attackers.

Her very anxious, poor husband has to go to work to feed them.

This is a factual story. Please, they need help urgently. I wish to remain anonymous in fear of retaliation.
