Tierpoort Seniors celebrated the group’s fifth birthday with a braai arranged by the committee. The hostess was Marinza Herselman from Thulani in Tierpoort Road.

Convenor Lucy Joubert and a small committee planned the first gathering in April 2013. Since then the 10 committee members as well as the 70 seniors have gone from strength to strength. Strangers became best friends and for most seniors this occasion is the highlight of their month.

Thanks to Marinza, the tables were beautifully decorated in black and blue with lanterns as the centre pieces. The farm atmosphere was carried through with bales of hay for extra seating, donated by Ben and Wilma van Rensburg.

A special farm yard photo booth was set up for individual photos, taken by the committee photographer, Amorien van Heerden.

The welcome drinks were either sherry or non-alcoholic bubbly to suit this special occasion. Interesting snacks, prepared by the committee, were placed on the tables to enjoy while the attendees were participating in a quiz.

The questions were all related to incidents and persons involving Tierpoort Seniors over the past five years. Paula Sassenburg claimed the first prize.

Volunteers Frik and Deirdre Brits did the chicken kebabs and boerewors. The meat was accompanied by various side dishes with milk tart to follow.
