‘Go Green’ was the theme of the Tierpoort Seniors’ gathering on 1 November at Leribisi Lodge, Tierpoort.

As Hanelie Jaume quoted in her welcoming speech: “Green not only represents summer, but also life.”

The seniors requested a talk on gardening for small gardens. Tanya Simon, also a Tierpoort resident and shop manager, was approached. She started organising with great enthusiasm and invited three guests to give a presentation on gardening: Dries Annandale of Efecto; Clinton Ryder; and Paul Vonk of Mayford.

Paul Vonk, the main presenter, caught all the guests’ attention with a hilarious video about brands pranks. After that he delivered an informative and practical presentation about gardening. This led to many interesting questions by the participants.

The tables

Each senior received two packets of herb seeds. Three stacked hampers were won by giving the correct answers to a quiz.

As usual the seniors were spoiled by the committee. Home-made lemonade was the welcoming drink. The main menu consisted of various quiches with a green salad followed by a fruit salad with custard and cake.

The tables were decorated with vegetables and herbs and the seniors could take the veggies home, as well as fruit and vegetables donated by Tierpoort OK food and liquor. The seniors wish to thank Willie van Rooyen and his team and Estelle Prinsloo and her team.
