Tierpoort Seniors celebrated autumn with a country picnic in the park. Dressed in country western style, they met up on 3 May at LJ’s pub and grill on Garstfontein Road.

The tables were set in bright autumn colours and decorated with ripe corn and plants, accompanied by antique coffee and tea pots.

Hosts, Hannes and Lofty van Rooyen as well as Anton van der Walt kept a steady supply of hot chocolate, coffee and tea going throughout the event. This was enjoyed in enamel mugs as in bygone years.

The picnic lunch

While nibbling on the snacks, donated by Q4’s owners, the guests were entertained by country singer Charlene with her repertoire of old Afrikaans and English songs.

The picnic food was served in enamel plates: chicken strips, boiled eggs, cocktail sausages, filled pita breads and green bean fritters, prepared by the committee. A variety of sugar breads were presented for desert.
