The South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) launched a support group for those who have ever or recently lost a beloved pet. The group started on 1 March and is available seven days a week, from 8 am to 6 pm.

“Losing a pet can be an incredibly difficult and emotional experience, and this community will offer comfort and support to those who are grieving,” said support group leader, dr Kendall.

“I realised that there is really not much support out there specifically designed for pet parents. This group will operate purely from a WhatsApp group, so those pet parents who need support can still have a safe space consisting of people who understand their grief.”

Members can join discussions, share memories of their pets, and receive support from others going through a similar experience. People who need immediate support or simply want to connect with others who understand their grief are welcome.

To join the group, contact dr Kendall on 082-662-6659. Participation is free, and all are welcome regardless of the circumstances surrounding their pet’s passing.
