Giving a permanent home to orphans, rescued horses and donkeys, food for widows and the disabled, and teaching the community to care for its critters – these are some of African Blessings’ goals.

“Faith and Love through Action” is the mission of this public benefit organization, established at Rustfontein Farm near Bronkhorstspruit in 2003.

Since its inception, the organisation has seeded, grown and managed several projects. 

The horses’ daily cuddle

Jochebed Children’s Village will provide a home for orphaned or abandoned children. The land on which the village is built was acquired in 2006, the architect’s plans were approved in 2009, the foundation laying ceremony was held in 2010 and the Early Learning Centre opened in 2012. Future plans include a recreation centre, a primary school, a church and a sports field.

In August, 13 of the 16 cottages had been completed. Each cottage has been designed and constructed as a family home and will house six children, with a house parent or parents.

The food gardens on the African Blessings Farm feed around 1 500 people and provide food for widows, orphans, the elderly, disabled citizens and some of the poverty stricken communities in the area. African Blessings has also established 24 food gardens in neighbouring townships and informal settlements; and at orphanages, homes and schools.

Homes for horses – Rustfontein is home to nine rescued horses, which had been saved from compromised circumstances during the last six years.

Critter community care

Rustfontein donkeys – There are five beloved rescued donkeys, also saved and adopted from various situations and provided with the safe and loving permanent home they deserve.

Critter community care – This involves caring for domestic animals in the communities in which African Blessings works. This outreach project provides insights, support and education that translate into a better quality of life for the animals in townships and informal settlements. The program includes basic medical care, dipping, de-worming, feeding, sterilization and animal care education.
