The challenge is on among Bronberg showjumpers. An inter-stables team challenge is in the pipeline and now is the time to start looking for team members.

The first ever Bronberg-based inter stables team challenge was held on 23 July last year. Stable yards east of Pretoria competed in friendly team events at the local jumping shows. This year the concept has been given a boost with a generous R20 000 sponsorship from Stan van de Burgh, owner of The Burgh Equestrian Centre.

Stan, himself a sportsman, has always been keen to give riders incentives to compete as teams and as individuals. “His commitment to equestrian sport has been remarkable and we are very fortunate to have him in our area,” said Sue van der Merwe from Pretoria Equestrian Centre (PEC).

The competitions will be held over three shows. Jumping teams must consist of five adult or junior riders (four team members and one reserve), competing over 1.20 m, 1.10 m; 1.00 m and 90 cm courses.

The three best scores over the three shows will be taken into account to determine the winning team. There will also be a similar team competition for pony riders who will be competing over 1.00 m, 90 cm, 80 cm and 70 cm.

The shows will be held at The Burgh Equestrian Centre on 1 September, 20 October and the final on 10 November. They will include graded events for the adults and juniors, but the pony competitions will be unaffiliated and open to all pony riders.
