Sixteen girls from the Louis Botha Children’s home celebrated Valentine’s Day by caring for the Bronberg environment at the Faerie Glen Nature Reserve.

The nature theme for the day was trees and the girls proudly identified the trees that they, with the help of nature conservation personnel, had helped plant over the past two years.

The girls were brought to the reserve by Karen Hauptfleisch, founder of SOAPkidz, a non-profit organisation which aims to benefit vulnerable children and the environment they live in.

Throughout the morning the girls and SOAPkidz volunteers went about searching for treasure and picking up litter, using their newly acquired global positioning system (GPS) reading skills.
