Ek het Sondagaand my worshondjie by Onderstepoort gehad.

It could be one of two problems. The most likely one is a disc prolapse – a slipped disc – which, although not causing any nerve injury, is causing back pain. This can be managed with pain killers if the spinal cord is not being compressed.

Another less likely cause is sterile meningitis (not like the infectious one in people). This affects small-breed dogs and causes back or neck pain and sometimes other nervous signs.

With a dachshund, though, a slipped disc is most likely.

I would take the dog back for a further work-up.
