‘Don’t worry, BEE Happy’ was the theme of the Tierpoort Seniors Fun Event held on 2 March. The morning was all about honey bees and the seniors were asked to dress as a bee. Hence most people came in black and yellow to Shokran on plot 99, Luiperd Street, Tierpoort.

Guests were welcomed with ‘nectar’ made with honey bush tea and honey. After the welcome, Hennie and Amanda Alberts were interviewed by Theresa Joubert in the new addition to the event called ‘getting to know you’, where people tell the story of how they came to live in Tierpoort.

Lucy Joubert gave a presentation about the African honey bee. After each section of the talk, questions were asked and the table group that answered correctly had to draw a part of a bee. The group that eventually completed the bee, head, body, legs, wings and antennae, won a crunchie each.

The tables were decorated in black and yellow with printed jokes about bees scattered around. There was a meal of shepherd’s pie, pumpkin and spinach followed by ‘bee sting’ for pudding plus tea and coffee.
